The painting shows Mr. R.T. Askham, an officer of the Augustinian Society in the High Chamber, commissioned by Geoffrey Gibbs.
Previously sold by Dee, Atkinson & Harrison, July 2010, where they stated "This painting was given to our vendor`s grandfather, the artist Jack Burton, by Walter Goodin".
