A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1940, from a Stanier LMS type 8F 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order for the War Department. Those built by BP in 1940 were Works Nos 6980-7000, although these numbers were not inscribed on the plates, and were given WD Nos 400-20. Most were diverted to war service in the Middle East but four were loaned to the LMS as Nos 8286/7/8/9, later sold to the LMS becoming BR 48286/7/8/9, whilst one LMS 8293 remained in the UK.
