The Aston-Martin DB2 appealed to only a limited market because it had just two seats and a very small boot compartment. Aston Martin response to these shortcomings in October 1953 with the launch of the DB2/4 which had two occasional seats in the back which folded forward to create a very useful luggage area. The roof-line was also raised and a larger rear window incorporated into a lifting tailgate to create what was effectively the world's first hatchback.

The new model incorporate features like all aluminium body, a telescopic steering column and adjustable backrests. Brakes were large and powerful drums all round.

Powered by a 2,580cc version of the famous Willie Watson / WO Bentley designed DOHC straight-six engine producing 107bhp, the DB2/4 2.6-litre was capable of 0-60mph in 10 seconds on its way to a top speed of 115mph.

DB2s finished first, second and third in class at the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hours, and third overall against Jaguar’s iconic C-Type. Three works-prepared DB2/4s took the Team Prize in the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally, with one of them just missing outright victory due to a navigation error. The magazine Motor stated that: "The DB2/4 can truthfully claim to be the fastest car in the world capable of carrying two people with a month's luggage." DB2/4 production had amounted to 565 cars by the time the MkII was introduced in October 1955.

First registered in June 1954, this particular DB2/4 MkI 2.6-litre was sold new to Mr Grahame S. Bourne of Rochdale, North –West England by Tice & Son Ltd. Mr Bourne was 34 years old at the time and must have been very proud to drive this elegant sports car finished in the desirable Sea Green and beige Connoly Leather. Mr Bourne owned and maintained his beloved Aston-Martin until 2011, when, aged 91 years old, he decided to sell. He had driven 102,000 miles in his 57 years of owning this immaculately kept car. The second and last owner then bought the car to compete in the 2012 Mille Miglia.

With virtually one owner from new, FIVA registered, Heritage Certificate and still retaining its original registration number, this very original and in excellent condition Aston-Martin is a tribute to the “love and care” of its first owner. Presented in its original Sea Green colour and beige hide interior, this car is a sure investment, an iconic piece of British Motoring heritage.
