This is a genuine Jaguar TWR XJS 5.3, it is thought to be the last TWR XJS built before the shared venture with Jaguar Sport. Those of you that know, will be able to tell by the embossed TWR stamp in the body mouldings and by the black exterior plastic piping which copies don’t have, amongst other things. The car has just had a Full Service, new plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm, leads, oil, filter, water pump, all belts, starter motor, 4 new tyres, and is fitted with a Stainless Steel Exhaust.
Between 1984-1987 Tom Wilkinshaw of TWR made approximately 300 TWR XJS's to his own specification. This proving so popular that Jaguar made Tom and offer on a 50/50 partnership in a new venture named Jaguar Sport which would produce his spec vehicles on a larger scale.
In 1988 A special XJR-S version of the V12 5.3 litre was produced by Jaguar Sport, a separate company owned 50/50 by Jaguar and TWR. This Car had the same distinctive body kit, special alloy wheels and suspension and handling mods. The first 100 of these cars were termed "Celebration Le Mans" to commemorate Jaguar's 1988 win at Le Mans. Between 1988-89 a total of 350 XJR-S cars were produced with the 5.3 litre Engine.
The TWR XJS offers levels of hand-built engineering sophistication unavailable in a production-line vehicle. The 5.3 litre engine remains standard, but a power increase of some 10% is achieved using full flow exhaust and silencer system made in stainless steel throughout with top speed around 160 m.p.h. The automatic gearbox 'quick-shift' modification which sharpens up-shifts and kick-downs. Up rated brakes. Suspension. it is here that lessons of closely contested motor racing have most clearly paid off. The levels of road holding are far more than those likely to be encountered on the road. but important balance between handling and ride has not been lost. The combination of stiffer springing. as filled dampers (made exclusively to TWR specification) and lowering has the desired effect. TWR altered the turning in characteristics, and reduced roll which makes the car more controllable in high speed curves. whilst at low speeds it has lost none of its suppleness and ease of operation. A special power assisted steering system to give greater feel through the wheel (TWR Steering wheel fitted) to suit the sporting driver.
Wheels and tyres; specially designed alloy 8 X 16 road wheels have been made to combine low drag and adequate extraction of cooling air from the front brakes. low profile high speed tyres are fitted. This car also has a spare set of wheels to exact specification but have winter tyres fitted (still as new). The aerodynamic panels are only part of the revised external appearance of the TWR Sport conversion and the Jaguar special paints were applied.
