A Victorian gem-set butterfly brooch, the butterfly's thorax and abdomen set with a sapphire and precious opal, the opal with medium spectral play-of-colour on a translucent background, leading to wings set with rubies and rose-cut diamonds, with one ruby deficit, in an open-back yellow and white metal mount, tested as 14ct gold and silver, with the brooch fitting to the reverse; measuring approximately 36mm x 20mm; 4.5 grams
