A SCARCE EARLY-C20TH POSTCARD SHOWING THE NOUP HEAD LIGHTHOUSE, WESTRAY, ORKNEY, ADDRESSED TO THE KEEPER OF THE RUVAAL LIGHTHOUSE, ISLAY
Bearing Kirkwall postmark, the recipient: Mr. D. McDonald, Rhuvaal [sic] Lighthouse, Portaskaig, Islay., message reading Trusting you are all keeping well with best wishes. From J. R. M. 18/12/1903

James R. MacQuarrie (the sender) was based at the Noup Head Lighthouse from 31/8/1903. The recipient of the card, Donald MacDonald (b. 1854), was Principal Keeper at Ruvaal Lighthouse between 6/3/1895 and 26/10/1904, under whom MacQuarrie had worked as Assistant Keeper from 29/11/1895 to 23/08/1900.  
 
Included with the lot is another Orcadian Lighthouse postcard showing the original Hoxa Head Lighthouse, now on display at the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, Fraserburgh, produced by John Sinclair, Stationer, St. Margaret's Hope (Orkney); and a view of Scrabster Harbour by Valentine's (3)
