COBALT BLUE CHANDLER COTTAGE INK. 2.5ins tall. Delicious mid cobalt blue glass classis sheared lip ink, roof tiling detail, heavily embossed front windows & door, side water butt (hooped), rear pen rest. Base embossed C. CHANDLER/ & CO. Christopher and William Chandler & Co of Bermondsey in London are the likely retailers, their bottles are also found with W Chandler embossed but Christopher is the earlier listing. There are four Chandler cottage variants; this listed as type I in the forthcoming Inks book with similar type II bottles lacking the brick pattern on the chimney and minor design differences. We believe this is the first time, an undamaged true blue Chandler cottage ink has come on the open English market in 40 yrs? A repaired example was sold by BBR in July 2010 and pale examples have gone through but not with the strength of colour seen here. Sittingbourne dug.
