An extremely rare early Victorian other ranks uniform of the 10th (North Lincoln) Regiment, comprising scarlet coatee with yellow facings, white frogging, epaulettes, two inverted chevrons on right sleeve and pewter buttons by Nutting, London, the inside breast marked "D. Smalley XF 412 1845" (minor moth, particularly inside the tails, one cuff button missing), pair of white linen trousers marked "D. Smalley Xth Ft. 412 26 July 1846", white linen jacket, unmarked, and white linen haversack also marked "D Smalley 10th Ft. 412 26 July 1846", (faint) containing a housewife (no contents) marked "D SMALEY X.B. No 77", GC, parts near VGC for age. Included with this lot is a copy of the Record of Service of Dennis Smalley who joined the Regiment in 1825, Discharge Certificate dated September 1846 showing that he served for 20 years 352 days of which 15 years were spent abroad in Portugal, the Ionian Islands and India, Clothing Allowance, Medical Certificate etc. The fact that he was discharged in September 1846 and the items are dated July 1846 would account for their good condition and survival. A truly remarkable lot. £1000-2000
