WW2 Military Medal, 1939-1945, Italy Stars, BWM, 1923 GSM 2 clasps Palestine 1945-48, Malaya, 1953 Coronation Medal, QEII Army LSGC and Federated Malay States Active Service Medal (Pingat Khidmat Berbakti) to 6399280 Sjt W.A.F. Hodges R. Tank R. (R. Tks on GSM, S.Q.M.S. M.M. R. Tks on LSGC) very fine or better, court mounted for display with cap badge.
William Arthur Frank Hodges's MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 28th June 1945. With copied citation, "Sgt Hodges has been responsible for the replenishment of tanks in action, using cut down Stuart tanks. He has shown consistent bravery and initiative and has never failed in his task. An example of his work occurred on 4 Sep at Tavoleto. The Sqn had had a heavy battle from first light and needed more amn. The tanks could not manoeuvre freely because of mined approaches, and they were under accurate M.G. and mortar fire. Sgt Hodges took his replenishment vehicles right up to the tanks. His vehicle received a direct hit, which removed part of the amn load. Sgt Hodges, although wounded, carried on his task to completion. The tanks were enabled to remain in action and give the necessary support to the infantry."
He is thought to have served in Malaya with Federation of Malaya Recce Regiment. (See photo) (R)
