PORCHESTER CASTLE & CHESTERFIELD - "TRANSPORT OFFICE" OVAL ON COVER EX P.O.W. TO PAROLE P.O.W.; Remarkable and very fine 4 Oct. 1810 EL from a soldier "prisonnier at Chasteau de Porchesterre" to his Colonel who was on parole in Chesterfield; endorsed "Ex JM[?]" on the front by the Porchester POW Agent and sent by him to London where a 75% strike (slightly over the edge) of a very fine triple-oval "TRANSPORT [OFFICE]/[Crown]/G.R/PRISONERS OF W[AR]" was struck on the front; initially addressed to Col. Lagrange en Cautionnement a Lescastle[?]" but then redirected to "Litchfield" and finally to "Chesterfield" so the "8[d]" rate changed to "1/2" in total.
