Fees

A late 17th century walnut cushion-framed wall-hanging looking glass; the pierced pediment (very bowed) centrally surmounted with a crown and flanked by opposing lion and unicorn above a very shallow hand-bevelled mirror plate (some distressing but probably original) (the mirror plate 40cm x 35.5cm, the frame size 78cm highest point to tip of pediment x 52cm wide)

More Information

The pierced pediment is very bowed as a result of shrinkage across the grain over time. The plate looks original with a very shallow hand bevelling and is pretty distressed on the whole as you would expect of something of this age. There is some minor historic woodworm holes and the mirror has darkened around the edges commensurate with age. There is a vertical crack through the Unicorn’s head and body which has been photographed. There a little rubbing to the extremities but overall the colour is quite good. 1an old Christie’s label on the back. In reasonable condition commensurate with age.
