More Information

*Condition: Has been relined - stretcher appears to be 19th century. Two restored splits to canvas, one through Abraham's head and the other above and to the left of Hagar's head. Some craquelure visible across the surface, although it is more noticeable to the lower half of the canvas. Abrasion to paint at top right corner and another vertical line of abrasion through paint to Hagar's lower leg. Several areas of paint loss to margins. Patch of repainting visible (to the naked eye and under UV) above Abraham's shoulder. The remainder of the surface is beneath a blocking varnish used during restoration, so other retouches & repainting not visible, apart from to the restored splits around Abraham's head.
