An early mid 20th century Rob Roy Canadian Canoe 'Birony', fitted with three seat positions for single or tandem use, with two wooden seats, adjustable bask bar, two double blades and canopy, 480cm long, 80cm wide. *Notes- Canoe built in 1966 to the specified classic design of the Royal Canoe Club for it's centenary of incorporation in 1966. The Royal Canoe Club was incorporated in 1866 for gentleman , adventurers and travellers , with Royal patronage by Edward Prince of Wales later Edward V11. The Rob Roy Canadian canoe design was adopted by the Royal Canoe Club as it's classic canoe for all members , and the founding group met in the Star and Garter at Richmond to found the club on 25th July 1866. This canoe was built in mahogany in Charlestown Cornwall for a Col Mann who resided nearby at Pentewan , and taken to the Thames by him for the Centenary Regatta in July 1966. The vendor acquired the canoe from the Estate of Col Mann. In 2010. The Royal Canoe Club is based at its freehold property on the River Thames and the club and members have been involved with the Olympics and other international events since 1936.
