In 1977, Rolls Royce introduced the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering, and modifications to the front suspension, which improved handling dramatically. Externally, the bumpers were changed from chrome to alloy and rubber starting with the late 1976 Silver Shadows. These new energy absorbing bumpers had been used in the United States since 1974, as a response to tightening safety standards there. Nonetheless, the bumpers on cars sold outside of North America were still solidly mounted and protruded 2" less. Also, now made standard across the board, was the deletion of the small grilles mounted beneath the headlamps. A front skirt was fitted to the Silver Shadow II and its sister cars.
The Rolls-Royce Shadow II offered here is described by the vendor as an excellent example of its type, having had only 2 previous keepers, and to drive without fault. The car is presented in Masons Black with Black leather and special order wood dash. Extras include telephone, white wall tyres, rear foot rests, tool kit and badge bar. The service book shows the first service was by Harley Green Garage Rolls-Royce, and subsequent services untill they closed. The remaining servicing was by Wraith Motors Rolls-Royce.
The last owner purchased the car in 1981 but used it very sparingly, with the MOT history showing 2,000 miles covered in the last 13 years. The car comes with two boxes of service history, service book and original book pack, all old MOTs, tax discs and a manual. Good examples of these Shadow II's with good history are hard to find at this low reserve.
