£800 - £1,200
1953 Trojan Mini Motor, 49 cc. Registration number RLG 516 (non-transferable). Frame number TBC. Engine number C58587.
The roots of the Mini Motor can be traced back to post war Italy, where Vincenti Piatti, later to design the scooter, produced the "Mini Motore" in 1946, initially designed to power lathes but is was quickly adapted to power conventional bicycles in a post war era when petrol was still in short supply.
British rights to produce the engine were acquired by Croydon based Trojan, known for their robust two-stroke engined cars and small commercials, with the Mark 1 appearing on the market in 1949, continuing until 1957.
The engine sat above the rear wheel which it drove with a friction roller on the left hand side of the crankcase. It could propel the machine up to 30 MPH and deliver up to 220 MPG. They were normally attached to Raleigh bicycles.
This example is fitted with a four speed Sturmey Archer hub, Raleigh pedals and a Lucas bell and is in good condition. The C58587 engine number would suggest a Mark III engine which ran from 1951 - 1953; C44604 - C68919.
RLG 516 would appear to have been put back on the road in 1992, according to DVLA and an Antony Maydew acquired it in August 1998, he sold it to John Dean of Congleton a year later. MOT's were undertaken between 1996 - 2004, when Dean moved to Llandubno and our vendor bought it in August 2013. Little used recently due to knee problems this machine should take little recommissioning to put back on the road.
Sold with the V5C, V5, various MOT's and other paperwork.
