** PARIS(?) - EARLY INTERNEE LETTER WITH "DEAL/SHIP-LRE" & HORSESHOE "NEWCASTLE ON TYNE"; Fine 20 Sept. 1794 EL (small closed tear by seal) to "Lord Deleval, Newcastle [on Tyne]" from somewhere in France (Paris? or possibly from Boulogne) written by "John Apreece", an English civilian internee and relation of the addressee; the letter had been entrusted to a friend who had a ship sailing from Boulogne to Newcastle but it was landed at Deal and so has mainly very fine small "DEAL-SHIP-LRE" on the front slightly overstruck by a fine "NEWCASTLE ON TYNE" Horseshoe mark (struck on redirection to "Ford") and there is a 4 Oct. London transit cds on the flap. Apreece says that he has been "in prison these 12 months past".
