A Victorian papier-mache sewing box, of rectangular outline, the hinged lid decorated with a continental street scene, enclosing a fitted lift-out tray and stationery pouch to the lid underside, with gilded decoration to the sides, raised on moulded feet, 31cm wide.
Overall condition is at best fair. The lid has several cracks to the lacquer running front to back. there are scratches and hairline cracks to the top. The gilding is worn to the edges and side. The interior is heavily stained and the lining paper foxed. The underside is in good order.
