A VERY FINE & RARE IRISH PROVINCIAL – LIMERICK – SILVER SERVING SPOON, decorated to the stem & tip with bright cut decoration including a faded lion passant engraving along with a prince of Wales style plume. Impressed to the reverse with maker’s initials mark of MFG for Maurice Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is thought to have been apprenticed to Vere Forster of Dublin and granted freedom in 1774. He first registered in Dublin in 1784 and was located at Mary Street & Bridge Street in Dublin in the mid – late 18th century. He was deceased by 1817. Also impressed with STERLING mark to the reverse. Length of spoon: 25.5cm. Weight: 67grams.
