A mid 18th century 14 bore brass barrelled flintlock holster pistol, by Jo. Shiels, 15” overall, 3 stage stepped barrel 8¾”; rounded lock with unbridled frizzen, the plate engraved with wavy border and impressed “Io. Shiels” in rectangular panel; walnut fullstock with carved apron around barrel tang, lock, and ramrod pipes; brass mounts include fluted trigger guard, baluster ramrod pipes, and engraved buttcap embossed with stylised grotesque mask; with plain wooden ramrod. GWO & C (some light age wear, old repair to split in fore end)
