A nineteenth century embroidered map of France as divided into 86 departments, the Savoie shown as belonging to Italy, as it was prior to 1860. To the east additional detail shows Belgium, Bavaria, Wurtemberg, Switzerland and Piedmont. The map is bordered with embroidered swags in red and ginger chenille, the fabric of cream linen stretched and applied to another layer of linen, approx. 65 cm by 56cm, unframed
A small area of loss to the top fabric layer to the left side, to the outside of the chenille border, the upper layer being well supported by the underlayer of fabric. Ready for framing.
