A large Chinese export porcelain Canton famille rose punch bowl, worn four character seal mark to base, 19th century, painted with a continuous scene of an extensive lake landscape with pagodas and temples, a bridge and a masted European ship, below a border of foliage, flowers, bats and Shou symbols on an iron red and gilt seed ground, the interior painted in rouge-de-fer and gilt with butterflies, fruit and flowers, 15 ¾in. (40cm.) diameter, gilt wear., There is a large chip to the footrim from manufacture which is beneath the glaze. Gilt wear to rim and some rubs to decoration to interior. A few minor losses to exterior enamel. There is also a strange flaw to the rim, which appears to be a manufacturing fault - a partially detached flake from the porcelain which has some small chips along the edge - please see the close-up photos of this fault.
