Henry II (1154-1189), AR Penny, Cross-and-crosslets (‘Tealby’) coinage; class F1. 1174-1180. Ipswich, moneyer Roberd. Crowned facing bust, holding sceptre. rev . Cross pattée, with crosslet in angles, +ROBERD ON GIP. 1.42gm. (BMC 347; N 961/1; S 1342). Extremely Fine and well struck portrait. Although there is much peripheral weakness the portrait is far stronger than usual.

Ex. Baldwin’s, shop ticket c. 1920s in AHB’s own hand. On the back he notes ‘Probably Canterbury ? (BMC 94).
