The Triumph GT6 production ran from 1966 to 1973. In early 1963 Giovanni Michelotti was commissioned by Standard-Triumph to design a GT version of their recently introduced Spitfire 4, also designed by Michelotti. An unmodified Spitfire 4 was delivered to Michelotti's design studios in Italy and late in 1963 the prototype Spitfire GT4 was returned to England for evaluation. The styling of the vehicle was a success but the extra weight of the GT bodyshell resulted in extremely poor performance from the Spitfire's 1,147 cc power unit, and plans for producing the Spitfire GT4 were shelved.

To overcome the lack of performance inherent in the heavier body style the Spitfire's 4-cylinder engine was replaced with the more powerful 1998 cc 6-cylinder engine from the Triumph Vitesse. The car was further developed and refined and eventually launched as the Triumph GT6.

This matching numbers car has been completely restored by the vendor, and has a full picture file and parts/services receipts to confirm the work that has been done. The body and chassis were completely restored , new inner and outer rear wheel arches were fitted, and the rear shock absorber mounts were modified so they act against the chassis rather than the body. The vendor says that this car has NO rust.

The engine, gearbox, rear axle and all the mechanicals were overhauled. The car has been completely re-trimmed and the wiring rectified. The car is sat on replica Minilites with new tyres, and the original wheels come with the car. There is nothing to do to this car, it has done about 50 miles since completion of the restoration work, and it is quite simply an outstanding car at a very sensible reserve.
