AN AFGHANISTAN AND INDIA PAIR TO AN OFFICER IN INDIA.
An Afghanistan 1878-79-80 Medal named to Sub.Con: H. Myland Ord: Dep with an India 1895-1902 Medal with Punjab Frontier 1897-98 clasp, named to Captn H. Myland, Ordce Dept. BI. Henry Myland had a long and successful military career, a Private with the Cape Mounted Rifles from 17th March 1863, he rose to Corporal, Sergeant and then Colour Sergeant before transferring to the 96th Regiment in India from the 1st of May 1970, clearly problems arose as he was tried and reduced to Private within a year. He rose again to Sergeant in the Ordenance Department in Bengal having served with the 40th Regiment and time on the unattached list. He rose through the ranks to sub Conductor, Conductor, Honorary Lieutenant, and finally Captain. He dies on the 18th December 1897 in Calcutta from the effects of illness picked up while serving with the Malakand Field Force.
