1815 Waterloo Medal to Serjeant John Forbes 42nd or R.H. Reg Infantry, replacement ring and straight bar suspender engraved Peninsula, heavy pitting and edge bruising, fair. With copied and typed research including service papers, muster extracts etc, he was born in Inverness, enlisted 6/5/09, papers state he was severely wounded in the right arm and hand at the siege of Burgos (19 Sep to 21 Oct 1812), musters list him sick-wounded Salamanca for 25 Jun - 24 Sep 1812, discharged 4/9/21. From Linklater's History of the Black Watch, "John Forbes was an extraordinary specimen of ignorance, scarcely spoke English, and a wonder to many as an NCO". The 42nd Foot suffered heavy casualties at Burgos and Quatre Bras. (See photo) (R)
