Artwork: The Starbuck family of Nantucket; a set of six silhouettes, later framed as one, of 18th and 19th century members of the Starbuck family. Samuel Starbuck, 1762-1829; Benjamin Starbuck 1784-1819; George Starbuck 1785-1847; Lydia Starbuck 1795-1821; Sarah Starbuck 1793-1863 and Maria Starbuck 1798-1844. Measures 26.5cm by 22cm. Part of the Starbuck archive being sold through this saleroom. The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
