John Mallett, Barnstaple a mahogany longcase clock having an eight-day duration movement striking on a bell with the twelve-inch square silvered brass dial engraved with black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, floral decoration to the corners and maker's name John Mallett, Barnstaple, the mahogany flat-top case with raised panel to the base and standing on bracket feet, height 196cm. John Mallett was a watchmaker and jeweller at 4 High Street, Barnstaple where he founded the business in 1811. He married Susanna Upjohn, sister of William Upjohn of Devon & London and they had a son, also John, who succeeded him. The family became well-known prominent international antique dealers with a large retail outlet in Bond Street, London.
