A 16 bore (.65") Militia Flintlock musket or Sergeant's carbine, c 1775, 53" overall, barrel 37¾" with Tower private proofs, the tang engraved "No. 41"; rounded line engraved lock with swan neck cock, signed "HIRST" and engraved on the tail "No 41"; slender walnut fullstock with brass mounts, including large escutcheon and wavy sideplate, sling swivels, and steel ramrod. GC (action AF due to no scear spring, light pitting to barrel, 8" section of the stock has been rasped flat just forward of the sideplate, small chip below the lock). Jonathan Hirst (1760-1805) had a shop located on Tower Hill, London. £500-800
