A pair of World War II German Afrika Korps / Tropical Officers Binoculars, set of 6 x 30 Dienstglas retaining much of the original tropical paint finish to the body of the binoculars, plate stamped “Dienstglas - 6x30 - 332300- ddx”, missing bakelite carry case.
Provenance; By family tradition, acquired in Germany during 1945 by Act. Major RM Norman Edward Ricketts who was serving as a ‘Staff Officer Naval Demolitions on the staff of V.A.C.B.N. Germany’ during the lead up to and in the aftermath of the German surrender. Major Ricketts later went on to build a successful career in civil aviation, becoming one of the founders of International Air Bahamas and he was awarded an OBE for services to aviation.
