The German sculptor and painter Erich Kuhn was married to the pianist Lisa Kuhn. Their daughter Beate Kuhn became a well-known ceramist. Erich Kuhn trained as an art teacher. His teachers were Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. In 1918 he moved to the Black Forest and worked as a self-taught sculptor. From 1926 he taught at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. Some of his works were classified as "degenerate". Nevertheless, he received public commissions during the Nazi era and was awarded a prize at the art competition of the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. After World War II, he taught at the School of Applied Arts in Wiesbaden. Kuhn created nudes and portraits, mainly in wood and stone. Similarity with Georg Ehrlich.
