Two white mother of pearl mid-19th century fans, elaborately gilded and silvered, the leaves lithographed, the first showing boating down a river, canopied shelters for the wealthy, families taking their leisure watched by others on the riverbanks, the reserves in white and gold, the verso unusually showing two ladies stitching their needlework on a frame, a dog vying for their attention, guard approx. 26.5cm; together with a similar fan, the leaf showing a family at leisure, a dog on his hind quarters trying to attract attention, the reserves blue with the adjacent river, and finished with gold, the verso with a scene of a more rural farming community, alpine chalets and pine trees, this side also bearing a signed message inked to the left of the leaf, guard approx. 26.5cm, both contained in a blue 19th century card fan box
The second fan has a repair on the lower guard, at the shoulder.
