State 1 (2 - one with plain flap (no adhesive), the other with embossed flower seal & adhesive on flap) printed on grey paper, with inscription "ENGRAVED & PUBLISHED BY J. VALENTINE DUNDEE/Johnstone & Hunter Edinr & London (25 Adhesive or 30 Plain sent free for 12 Penny Post Stamps) Ackermann & Co London" at bottom on front, design reading "INTEMPERANCE/IS THE/BANE OF SOCIETY"; State 3 Type I printed on cream paper with embossed League of Universal Brotherhood clasped hands seal, with inscription "R Theobald, London/Johnston & Hunter Edinr" at bottom centre left, "DESIGNED & ENGRAVED BY J. VALENTINE DUNDEE/(30 Sent free for 12, 50 for 16, 100 for 24 or 250 for 48 Pennypost Stamps)" at bottom centre, and "E.Fry Broad St Buildings/& Ackermann & Co London" at bottom centre right with added curved surround, design the same as State 1, one of only four known recorded unused copies inc. one in the Royal Philatelic Collection; and State 5 Type II printed on grey paper with albino embossed engraved circle seal and adhesive flap, inscriptions moved to top flap and now reading "DESIGNED & ENGRAVED BY J. VALENTINE DUNDEE/Agents Paton and Ritchie Edinr 30 Sent free for 12, 50 for 16, 100 for 24 or 250 for 48 Pennypost Stamps William Tweedie, 337 Strand London/William Bremner 11 Market Street Manchester", and design changed to read "INTOXICATING DRINKS/ARE THE/BANE & CURSE OF SOCIETY", one of only two known recorded unused copies.
