A rare double barrelled flintlock blunderbuss, by H. Verncomb, c 1785, 32” overall, 2 stage swamped steel barrels 16½”, octagonal breeches with Birmingham private proofs and “HV” in rectangle maker’s mark, the break off breeches allow the barrels to be individually removed; plain slightly rounded locks with swan neck cocks, signed “Verncomb”; walnut fullstock, wrist with Egg type chequering; plain brass mounts including stout trigger guard with pineapple shaped finial, plain ramrod pipe and baluster throat pipe. Good Working Order and Condition (butt has been wormed and filled, jaw screws non matching, with a short dummy ramrod). Note: Stockel lists Hugh Verncombe, working in Bristol in 1784. Plate 6
