William Henderson (1876-1959) A .25 inch scale model passenger side tank, electric driven steam locomotive 4-4-0, GNSR black, red and yellow livery, pre 1914: 20.3 cm long. *Notes- William Henderson was born in Murraysburg, South Africa in 1876 where his father, Alexander Henderson was Resident Magistrate. His father was originally from Edinburgh and his mother from Aberdeen. The family returned to Scotland in 1878 to live in Aberdeen after the death of his father. William Henderson was a mechanical engineer and draughtsman, serving his apprenticeship with John M Henderson and Alex Guild & Son, Aberdeen. In 1900 he was in the workshops of the GNSR at Kittybrewster. In 1902 he was in the drawing office and in 1903 the works were moved to Inverurie where he stayed until March 1914, when he sailed for Nigeria to take up the post of Assistant Locomotive Superintendent to The Nigerian Railway in Lagos. When he retired in 1928 he was Chief Draughtsman. He died in Aberdeen in 1959.
