A smokebox numberplate, 42508, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-4T No 2508 built at Derby in 1934 specifically for use on former London Tilbury & Southend lines, becoming BR 42508. It spent almost its whole career either at Plaistow or Shoeburyness apart from a spell at Kirkby in the early 1940s. Withdrawn from Shoeburyness on 18 June 1962, it was cut up at Doncaster Works.
