A fine and well fitted 19th century ebonised rosewood Palais Royal travel necessaire / vanity chest, by L. Dujat, the box having inlaid gilt banding, the hinged cover with removable mirror, opening to reveal fitted silver plate mounted faceted glass jars, engraved with foliate scroll decoration, of square, circular, oval and rectangular forms, each sitting in shaped blue velvet recesses, the front with brass fittings, inscribed with retailer 'MAISON SMAL L. DUJAT Sr Bte SGDG PALIS-ROYAL', opening to reveal three trays with brass inset handles with engraved foliate decoration, the top one with fitted blue velvet tray with manicure and other tools, to include file, penknife, scissors, button hook, corkscrew, pen, etc, the middle with shaped storage boxes of varying form, one tin lined , the bottom velvet lined probably for stationary, key present, 10½ x 13 5/8in. (26.8 x 34.6cm.). Light surface scratches and wear to outside, mirror good, some matched tools, mostly correct, jars with no cracks found, some copper showing through plate, appears near complete, very good.
