Property of a gentleman - a late 19th century Chinese hongmu table or plant stand, 16ins. (40.5cms.) wide. Provenance - Colonel Gerald Hope Wildig O'Sullivan R.E. (1853-1940), and thence by direct family descent. Colonel O'Sullivan was born on 9th March 1853 on board the East Indiaman Herefordshire in the Mozambique Channel. He held several posts in India before being posted to China in June 1900 where he was to hold the position of Colonel on Staff and Chief of Staff China Field Force until September 1902.
