Obverse: first laureate bust of James II, facing left by John Roettier with 'IACOBVS · II · DEI · GRATIA' around, without elephant and castle below. Reverse: crowned cruciform shields of arms representing England, Scotland, France and Ireland with sceptres in the angles. The legend reads 'MAG BR · FRA ET HIB REX · 1685'. Weight: 8.32g. Diameter: 24.5mm. Grade: F - some minor scuffs and scratches with Fine detail, better in places.James II came to the throne in 1685, following the death of his elder brother, Charles II. The last Catholic monarch of England, Scotland and Ireland, he was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
