the 45in. laminated and carved hull with lacquered and lined decks and hatch covers with gilt and silvered fittings throughout, blue funnel with company emblem, mounted on four turned silvered columns to raised plush lined display base with ivorine plate within original glazed wooden case -- 19 x 56 x 17½ in. (48 x 142 x 44.5cm.) on contemporary recessed table stand -- 41in. (104cm.) high

On September 2nd, 1917, Wentworth, on a voyage from New York to La Pallice (La Rochelle, France) with 7,200 tons of cargo including agricultural machines, medical equipment, rails and food was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-52 (Hans Walther), 36 miles off Belle-Île with the loss of one soul.
