A GEORGE V NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1919-1962 WITH PERSIAN GULF CLASP. A George V Naval General Service Medal with Persian Gulf 1909-1914 Clasp named to 174706 E. Crowley P.O. H.M.S. Fox. Edward Crowley was born on the 2nd of February 1877 at Plymouth in Devon. His father, James Crowley from Ireland was a dockyard labourer, as a child Edward lived at 24 Cecil Street, St Andrews, Plymouth, he joined the Navy in February 1895. In 1901 he is in Gibraltar and by 1911 he is recorded as Petty Officer 1st Class aboard H.M.S. Sharpshooter. It seems that he may also have been entitled to a 1914/15 First World War Trio. This medal is number 1196 on the roll where he is recorded as being aboard H.M.S. Vivid on the 10th November 1915. He is recorded in Fevyer and Wilson in their study of this award aboard H.M.S. Fox a second class cruiser of 4360 tons, he was one of 954 men aboard this ship entitled to this award. *Condition: Good condition.
