MALTA - THE MANUSCRIPT GREEN CROSS LABEL ON COVER: 14 July 1941 ON ACTIVE SERVICE env. (minor edge faults top and right) Ilford to a Gunner Bounsnell, 7th AA Regiment R.A. Malta franked by GB KGVI 6d+9d with Examiner label at left overlapping a clear green crayon Cross 'Label' beside the tied blue Air Mail label. NOTE: The Malta handbook only records 3 examples (two being to Bounsnell) of this GXL-M manuscript label, but this is much earlier than than the Dec. 1942 to Feb. 1943 dates noted. This example could have been the original inspiration for the manuscript types, being dated around the change-over date between normal Types 1 and 2/3. A rare cover.
