A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO TO A GALLIPOLI CASUALTY WITH THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS. A Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 53 Sjt A. Middlemas K.O. Sco Bord. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. Andrew Middleton's death was reported in the Kelso Chronicle: "Sergt. Andrew J. Middlemas, 1/4th KOSB, reported from the Dardanelles as having been missing since the 12th July, is the eldest son of Bailie Arthur Middlemas, Aerated water manufacturer, Anna Cottage. Sergt Middlemas who is 27 years of age, has served for nearly 12 years in the local company of the Territorials and is a keen soldier, whilst he is also reckoned to be one of the best rifle shots in the Battalion. ...'. The official record suggests he died on the 12th July at the age of 27, he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey. Mounted for display with copied research.
