Wilfred Hardy (1938 - 2016) - a piece of highly detailed, gouache original artwork painted by Wilfred Hardy, featuring the 'De Havilland Mosquito', the world's first supersonic airliner. The artwork is the original piece created for card 17 in the series 'Castella: British Aviation' set of 30 cards, issued by Wills in 1994. Mounted, and accompanied by the published card. Signed to the bottom corner. Measuring approximately 30 cm x 42 cm including the mount.
Wilfred Hardy (1938 - 2016) was a British artist who specialised in painting aircraft, producing posters and private commissions. He contributed many painted pages to Treasure, Look and Learn, Eagle and Speed and Power magazines. He also produced work for the Royal International Air Tattoo, and in 1979 he designed the special paint scheme for a Royal Air Force McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.2 which was to re-enact the Transatlantic flight of Alcock and Brown for the 60th anniversary of the crossing.
