The full title of the medal is 'La médaille de la reconnaissance nationale pour services rendu à  la patrie luxembourgeoise pendant la guerre de 1940 à  1945, aide portée aux enrà´lés de force et résistants' (The medal of national recognition for services rendered to the Luxembourg homeland during the war of 1940 to 1945, aid given to the armed forces and resistance). It was instituted after World War II and awarded by the Grand Duchess and subsequently the Grand Duke after consultation with the Minister of State, President of the Government and deliberation of the Government. It is one of the rarest Resistance medals of World War II.
