An early 19c eight day longcase clock, the 35cm arched painted dial signed A. Kirkwood, Paisley and having corner paintings depicting the four seasons, and an oval in the arch showing Father Time. It has Roman numerals with outer Arabic five minute markers and date and seconds rings. The four pillar movement has an anchor escapement and is rack striking on a bell. It is contained in a mahogany case with boxwood stringing. The tall hood has swan neck pediments over a band of dentil moulding. The columns flanking the dial have spiral boxwood stringing and stand proud of the superstructure above. The trunk door is rectangular with boxwood edge stringing and is flanked by canted corners with boxwood edging. The base has a similar contrasting edge band with boxwood stringing and small bracket feet. The clock stands 223cm tall overall.
The dial is in good restored condition. the movement seems complete and is clean. The case is in quite good condition but the trunk door has shrunk a little in width.
