1932 Ariel Model 4F Square Four, 605cc, project. Registration number GW 7641. Frame number T1559. Engine number T701.
Sold with the V5C, V5, and paperwork listed above, a rare opportunity to restore an early Square Four. Buyers should satisfy themselves as to the completeness of the project.
The first production Ariel Square Four was the 1931 Model 4F and it displaced 500cc. For the 1932 model year, the bore was increased, pushing displacement up to 601cc to accommodate the growing sidecar market in the UK. It has two crankshafts (transversely oriented, one behind the other) with the four pistons forming a square in a one-piece cylinder block and a separate one-piece head. The Single Overhead Camshaft is driven by a single chain on the right side of the engine. The OHC 4F evolved into the OHV 4G in 1936.
This project comes with FAX copy of an R.F.60 listing Cecil Lutter as the owner in1972 followed by Peter Hall in 1973. There is a V5 listing C Chamberlain of London as the owner in 1979 and our vendor bought it as a project in 1999. The owners Club state it was dispatched to Hackford Motors Ltd of London.
Sold with the V5C, V5, and paperwork listed above, a rare opportunity to restore an early Square Four. Buyers should satisfy themselves as to the completeness of the project.
