AN EARLY THIRD REICH LUFTWAFFE OFFICERS SWORD, by the maker David Malsch of Steinbach-Thur Germany, the scabbard is leather over metal, and has 2 small rips to the leather, where it had been pulled out from under a bed frame, by an English Serviceman at the end of the War in Germany and brought back to the UK as a Trophy/memento of the conflict, the nickel silver fittings are all correct and fully intact and have a nice consistent patina throughout, the leather on the belt frog is nice and supple. The Sword itself has a blade length of approx 72cm, and is plain & un-attributed, the makers details are clearly visible, together with the Waffenampt Eagle and a partial 5 , the leather buffer is still present on the ricasso, and the Cross guard of the downturned wings is in the Cruciformal type, the Moroccan leather grip is in good condition and both the pommel and cross guard bear the circular Sundial style Swastika, any sign of gilding not present, overall a nice example of this sword from one of the lesser known makers
