Royal Marines 1845-55 Officer's gilt Shako plate, QV crown, scarce spelling of Gibralter at top of wreath, Per Mare, Per Terram to sides in wreath, silvered globe and anchor, 2 reverse loops and 4 hooks at back of crown, small verdigris spot in wreath, otherwise about mint. The vendor purchased this lot from Wallis & Wallis in Oct 2007, but the plate was as issued from makers without gilt, no anchor and globe was un-silvered. The vendor has had it professionally gilded, the anchor added and the globe silvered. Photo before modification included. (KK 1087) (See photo) (R)
