CIRCLE OF CHARLES JERVAS (1675-1739) A portrait identified as Peter Waller

of Stalbridge, standing three-quarter length in an interior wearing a red coat, a sword at his side and his right hand resting on a table, a landscape visible beyond, oil on canvas, 125cm x 100cm, apparently retaining the original giltwood and gesso frame

Provenance: Ven House, Milborne Port. Apparently this portrait was sold with Ven in 1957 and purchased back from AW McCaw in 1983. In the Ven inventory of circa 1850 it is stated that the painting belonged to "Mrs Coles", the granddaughter of the sitter.
