An early 19th century Chinese folding fan, the monture of wood, the head quite bulbous, the guards painted red and gilded with symbols and a fish, the double paper leaf in black and painted with two robed figures in a rocky area with bushes and flowers, edged in gold foil, the recto pained with a simple spray of flowers, guard approx. 28cm;together with a 20th century fan in cabriolet form, the wood monture shaped and pierced, the central fabric strip painted with a cocky outcrop and stylised tree, a mother and her child gazing from a window to the right, guard approx. 24 cm (2)
The early fan leaf has slight wear, one small area already reinforced from the verso, and a few small splits to the top. The second fan appears unused.
